Output devices

Output devices are hardware component which are used to display or print the processed information.

Types of output devices:-

     1.   VDU
It is commonly called as monitor. Monitor is most common output device. There are two types of monitor that most commonly used with personal computer- CRT monitor and flat-panel monitors.

     2.   PRINTER

a.     Dot matrix printer: -      Dot matrix printers are character printer. It creates character by striking pins against an ink ribbon. It can print 50 to 500 characters per second. It produces noise.

b.     Daisy wheel printer: -      daisy wheel printer works on the same principle as a ball head typewriter. The daisy wheel is a disk made up of plastic or metal on which character stand at the outer edge. Daisy wheel printers are slow and it prints only 10 to 75 characters per second only.
c.      Line printer: -      Line printers are high speed printers capable of printing an entire line at a time. A fast line printer can print up to 3000 line per minute.
d.     Laser printer: -      Laser printers are non impact printer. It utilizes a laser beam to produce an image on a drum. Laser printers produce very high quality output. The most common laser printer has resolution of 600 dpi and more higher laser printer have 1200 dpi resolution.

e.     Inkjet printer: -      Inkjet printers are known as impact printer. It works by spraying ionized ink at a sheet. A typical inkjet printer can produce a copy with resolution of at least 300 dots per inches. Some inkjet printer can make full color copy at 600 dots per inches or more.
f.        Thermal printer: -       Thermal printers are printer that print images by pushing electrically heated pins against special heat sensitive paper.

     3.   Plotter: -     The plotter is a computer printer which is used for printing vector graphics. A plotter gives a hard copy of the output. Plotters are used to print design of ships, machines, planes for buildings and so on.

     4.   Projector: -     Projector is an optical device that projects an image onto a surface. The most common type of projector used today is called a video projector.

     5.   Speech synthesizers: -      Speech synthesizer refers to a computer’s ability to produce sound that resembles human speech. Speech synthesis system can read text file and output them in a very intelligible.
